Spanish Alphabet through QR codes!
Earlier this year, my Spanish 1 students went to 2 kindergarten classes in our district. The one lesson turned into many lessons throughout the year. We had so much fun teaching Kindergartners the Spanish Alphabet. It worked out well because they had just got done reviewing the English Alphabet. My students were surprised that the students picked up the sounds so quickly. This resource would be great for a Spanish 1 class, dual immersion, ELL, or an English speaking classroom that wants to learn a *sprinkle* of Spanish. English speaking teachers SHOULDN'T be intimidated in this product. I've done all the work for you and you don't have to be fluent to pull this lesson off! Students practice Spanish and Math playing Costa Rica mercado!
A few weeks ago, my students participated in a Costa Rican market experience. Students had to do simple math problems figuring out how to quickly add up or exchange Costa Rican currency (colones). The Spanish IV students were the merchants and the Spanish I students were the buyers. Students had to speak Spanish the whole time. I thought the experience was great for a variety of reasons. It was very authentic and students actually received the paper goods and exchanged paper colones as if they were in Costa Rica. I saw a lot of cooperative learning going on. Some students were really good at quickly figuring up the cost of the naranja or bebida while others struggled with communicating. They worked together to make it happen! Learn Spanish through FOOD!
My Spanish 1 students had a ton of fun teaching kindergarten students about food in Spanish. The students made paper plates of all the food they like to eat during el desayuno, el almuerzo, and la cena. It was great because the high school students were reviewing while teaching the kinders their new food words. My students also made books, in Spanish, about all the food they eat in Costa Rica.
